Fabric and Flowers

I went to the quilting shop here in Guilford... It's been here forever, but for some reason I've never gone in...It was like one of those dreams where you find a room in your house that you never knew was there and it happens to be an enormous shoe shop or something, and you get so excited because, well... you now have all these shoes you never knew about... you know?

In other news, our house is FILLED with dried hydrangeas that a friend gave us this summer. I love them.

A Fall Walk in Guilford

Sheila and I went out for lunch today and then went for a long walk to the ocean.

All of the houses have fun Halloween decorations out, I'm exicted to see all of the little ones dressed up tomorrow night. heeeee

The New York Trip

Some photos from my New York trip this past weekend. We had a fun brunch in Brooklyn,

all you can eat meat at a Brazilian restaurant in the east village, lots of cheese, wine, and tons of fun...

Fun Fabrics

Today my mother and I have a few things to do... Try on wedding dresses, go to Ikea, unpack boxes from when I moved from NY to Ca 2 years ago... actually, that's more something I have to do...oops. I wanted to go to Purl while I was in NY but never made it down there. So I thought I'd try out a quilting store here in Guilford that I've always noticed, but never gone into. Above fabrics all from Reprodepot.com.

Books from Amazon

I ordered some books last week. from Amazon. They arrived this weekend while I was in NY, but they only left a note! They'll come back today and hopefully just leave them for me if I'm not home. eeeeeee so excited! Tonight I'd like to sit by the fire and read my books.

Surprise!

I'm in Guilford, CT! I came back for a quick visit. I'm enjoying the New England fall, I have about a week and a half left and a lot to do... It's so perfect here... it's just like Stars Hollow...without Kirk.

Running in Skirts

You know how when you have gmail, there will be ads on the side that have to do with your emails...( that kind of creeps me out) well, I must have been emailing about skirts, and running because there was this website for running skirts. ha! funny, right? well I had to take a look. It's called Atalanta Athleticwear. Hee. Maybe I need to start running in a skirt! But I think I'd prefer a fuller one...with a cute pattern.. and tons of petticoats underneath.... Below is what the website says about the product....I like the idea but I'm stuck on the part about how now you'll have time to run and shower and take your kids to work... does the skirt have a built in shower? Make you not sweat? make you look so great that you don't need to shower? ever? snort.

"Think tennis skirt... but for running. These skirts are designed to optimize your workout potential by helping your workouts fit into your life, better. No longer will you be forced to skip your run since you "won't have time to shower" before taking your child to school.

Made right here in the USA. Designed in San Francisco, and produced here on the West Coast, these skirts are as American as Apple Pie and as heavenly as the goddess atalanta herself."

Alice Temperley for Target

I sure miss Target. It was the kind of store that I went into needing refills for my Swiffer and then would leave with all sorts of things that I didn't need... but were "so adorable" and "only 6.99" and "I know i have a million bags, but not this one..." Anyway, I'm missing this line by Alice Temperley- so so cute.... not sure if it's as good in real life, but very nice to look at.

Rock and Beets

Today I'm just organizing around the house. Some of the rocks that you find here must be part sand because when the sea erodes them, you get these amazing holes. Like big rocks of swiss cheese. Our shelves have turned into a rock display. And somehow....the bathroom turned into a shell display... i was downstairs recently, and erik was in the bathroom for a while...when i went up I saw he had arranged our entire shell and sea glass collection around the bathtub. It looks great, but you can imagine what a pain it is to clean... ahem....
Now I'm making beets.

Not the rock kind of beats... snort.

Cath Kidston, Hurray!!!

I went downstairs to bring the garabge out and peeked into our little letterbox, and what do I see.... My Cath Kidston Catalog has arrived!!!! I can't wait to oogle over everything... The Christmas products are out... crackers!!! ornaments!! Christmas cake in an adorable tin! Holly napkins and place mats! oh.. it's all so exciting... we brought an artificial tree here with us that I had bought at Target when we lived in California. I'm going to give myself until the end of Novemeber and then it's going up, we're drinking hot chocolate, and I'm playing christmas music until Erik hides my cd.

Paperchase

Paperchase always impresses me with their prints and products. In the US, Borders books carries a selection of their notebooks, accessories, etc. When I was working in San Francisco, I would sometimes (always) stop in on my way to the train. In fact, it got to the embarrassing point where they knew me... I'm loving these plates and mugs now. If there was a store here, I would totally put my embarrassment aside and stare at them everyday...

Wine tasting in Tel Aviv

Last night (as I mentioned before) we went to the Eretz Tel Aviv Musuem for a wine and cheese tasting event. Yes. I know. I was very excited.

It was very fun.

We made a friend at the end of the night and he invited us to a wine store near our house today to taste wine. We rode our bikes over, not sure if he'd be there, and he was! he loves wine and it's his "hobby" so we sat in the back of the wine shop trying wine, eating bread, olives and cheese. He was really nice and has invited us to go on wine trips that he likes to organize and also invited us to dinner at his family's house near Jeruselum. So, Yay!

Back

We have had no internet or cable for the past day and a half. It's amazing how helpless it can make you... it's scary that i've become so attached to having the internet... Oh well.. it's back and i'm happy. After have a 3 way phone call between me, and erik's admin and the HOT cable guy... we figured out a time for them to come. They got here this morning and i swear, walked in and turned on the tv and it worked.... apparently it was a building issue... but how lame did i feel?! oh well.... we're about to go on a long bike ride, we went into Tel Aviv last night for a wine and cheese tasting even at a museum. very fun....

Cold!

For the first day since we've been here, it's cloudy! and not hot! I'm wearing jeans!

If i wanted to, I could even wear my 3/4 length sleeved-peter pan collared-bright yellow jacket! It's a nice change, it makes me want to stay in and read. However, I'm hoping this isn't the start of a weather change... as much as I long for fall and crisp weather... the sun and beach have spoiled me!

Anthropologie Love

eek! I love this new stitch story and catalog at Anthropologie right now. I'll have to set aside some time tomorrow to drool over the website. I think I just might want everything...even though it's not sweater weather here yet. It all makes me want to create beautiful delicate knit pieces... instead of my awkward chunky scarves...hmph. Erik will be in the states next week, and I'm hoping he can find a minute to pop into a store and get me a catalog...pleeeease?!

Nest

I picked up an Israeli magazine yesterday, I think it's called 'Niche'. (it's all written in Hebrew so it's a picture book to me...) There was this chair/nest designed by Tjep, a Dutch design company. This nest sofa (Tak) was designed for the 2004 furniture fair in Milan. It's made of 50 rubber branches intertwined. A very fun idea...

Plants

We went to the plant store yesterday and left with a car full of plants. Doesn't it look like I'm actually in a field of wildflowers, and not just pulled over off of a busy road at the plant store that sells statues of all 7 dwarfs for your garden??

I was never a plant person before I moved to California (mostly because I never remembered to water them... I had one plant in NY that miraculously stayed alive despite never being watered, being next to the air conditioner and being used as a cat scratching post...) But now, I can't imagine our apartment without the greenlife.
Erik calls this one the 'tie dye' plant:

I like this fir because it reminds me of the east:

And this one...we just liked for it's leafy big-ness and fun stand:

Flutterby, CT

Whenever I'm home in Guilford, I usually stop by Flutterby on the Green. The whole shop has great colors everywhere. It's not surprising that they usually have a good selection of Tricia Guild books. Candles, rugs, and many handmade pieces... it's a fun place to shop or just wander around...

Emily Chalmers

These are some lovely photos from the website of Emily Chalmers. She is a stylist and has written a few books, including my favorite Flea Market Style. She is also has a shop Caravan in Old Spitalfields Market in London. Lovely, lovely, lovely...

Creating Vintage Style by Lucinda Ganderton

I saw this book on Amazon. From the photos, it looks like it could be a fabulous book.... I need to make a book order soon... or else a huge list, and stock up when I'm back home...

Elle Decor

It's rare that I get a magazine and don't tear into it as soon as I get home. But I'm saving the latest issue of Elle Decor to read later today....
all images from here.

Chugging Along

I started a quilt yesterday. I'm hoping to finish it in the next few days... it was one of those days where I started cutting the strips, sewing some squares, and all of a sudden it was 5:30. Gilmore Girls is on at 5:45, so I had to stop...
I then moved onto my knitting.

I have this really nice baby alpaca yarn that Erik gave me for Christmas a few years ago. I wanted to make a "safe" project that I knew I'd finish. So, yet again, another scarf... unless someone gets it for christmas... we'll see.....

Great Coats

I love bright colored swing-y coats. I got a bright blue trapeze wool coat last winter from Victoria's Secret (I know right? who would have thought...) I'm just glad that they so easy to find nowadays. Top 2 from Matalan. Bottom 2 from Victoria's Secret, the cream one comes in other colors. There was an AMAZING one from Oasis, but I couldn't get an image, so you can see it here. Good thing I'll be in London next month...too bad about the lousy exchange rate...

Old Jaffa Flea Market Part ll

It turns out I wasn't the only one regretting not buying more at the flea market. Erik had his eye on a colored window pane from Belgium and was still thinking about it the next day. We had also seen a nice coffee table and after getting home realized it would have been perfect. So Friday morning we made the trek back to Tel Aviv.

The parking gods much have been smiling on us because we found a spot right next to the store where our table (thank god!) was ( still there!). Erik's window pane was also still there...

we started to wonder what kind of a turnover there people get on their pieces. It was odd because there was so much junk... but yet they still wouldn't budge on the price of certain things.

We are very happy with the table...

I also picked up a few things...

it wasn't until i got home that i realized there was a, um...theme...
