Flowers on a Friday

Happy Friday! Walking around here you notice all of the amazing flowers that have been planted. I wish I knew more about gardening, and hope to learn someday. I feel like when I go into a flower shop I make a beeline to the bright reds, oranges, pinks, anything bright, and ignore everything else. But then when I get home, I realize that they don't all go together and look like a box of crayons dropped on the floor. I love color and am only now realizing that you should treat the combination in plants the same way you treat color in anything else. I love these purples with oranges and greens. In the photo they may look a bit bright, but in real life they were subtle shades mixing together. Beautiful.
Ah yes, and yesterday I managed my long walk...it took over 2 hours and today I'm having trouble moving my legs. Which automatically means I can skip the gym. Awe. Some.

Pretty Little Things

I received something very special in the post yesterday.... photos to come soon. I have a doctors appointment today in Redwood City and am going to try to walk home from it...We'll see if I make it or frantically call a cab. The weather has been so nice the past couple of days, I'm trying to spend as much time outside as possible. Last night I walked to the train station and was struck by how beautiful it is here. I really like Palo Alto and am trying to enjoy every single moment we have here. Even if we stay in CA I'm not sure we'd be able to stay in this town, so I'll take it while I can.

Hello Sisters!

My good friend, Susie, has just opened up a shop on esty with her sisters called Hello Sisters.
Through work travels, they have been able to pick up some interesting beads and supplies that add a unique touch to the designs.

All pieces come in these adorable boxes that they make, which makes the purchase even that more fun.

It's a brand new shop (only a few days!) but keep an eye on it, as I'm sure new products will be popping up regularly.
From their profile on Etsy:
'Each piece is a collaboration of their talents. Between the three, they draw, paint, sculpt, sew, embroider, knit, stamp, doodle, collage and have a really good time in a studio filled with sunlight, tunes, the smell of coffee and a cat named Patty.'
Perfect!! Go here to see more.

Yellow and Coral

I had a lovely day yesterday walking around Palo Alto with an old friend of mine. She's getting her masters in scientific/nature illustration. She was just accepted to an internship this summer in Tahiti, where she'll be drawing the wildlife...not too bad! We wandered around in the sun, had iced tea and then pondered why we are both attracted to Mike Rowe from 'Dirty Jobs', Bear Grylls from 'Man vs Wild' and Gregory House...from 'House'.....hmmmm maybe we like adventurous guys who don't mind getting dirty and act like weiners? interesting...

Yum

Some delicious colored jewels from Anthropologie. Perfect for a day in the park with sunshine and ice lollies...

Aqua and Gold

Phew....our internet wasn't working for the past hour and half, but luckily it's back now. It's amazing how helpless this can make you feel, I felt like I had to text and call everyone I know to let them know that I was alright... It's even more amazing that while I was at college, I had my first email address and barely ever used it. And I never used the internet, although this could have been because I had no idea what it was or could do...ahh to be so naive again... Remember card catalogs...and micro-fiche....and encyclopedias!?

Monday Sun

I had a great Friday driving around the Santa Cruz Moutains. Unfortunately, after that, it was a rainy weekend...all the better to stay in and watch movies. I had one of those wonderful moments when you go to buy something (that has 2 heels and rhymes with 'moos') with a gift certificate, only to find out that they were both half off. Very nice. I'm afraid that besides that, I'm a bit boring at the moment... the highlight of my day today is a doctors appointment.... hmmmm I'll be very happy when our boat shipment arrives and I'll get my fun art supplies back. But I suppose you can't have a boat shipment if you don't live anywhere yet? Looks like I'll be making macaroni art and building forts in the TV room. sweet.

Friday Fun

Happy Friday!! I feeling a bit under the weather today, perhaps something I ate yesterday? Boo. But I won't let it ruin my weekend! I was given a gift certificate while we were in Israel for "being a supportive spouse". snort. It's for Macys, so I may use it to buy a dress for an upcoming wedding, or...who am I kidding, I'll probably go straight to the shoe section. As soon as I feel better...
Have a great weekend full of great books, warm sunshine, and big shiny bags!

Walking in the Sun

Yesterday I went to the De Young Museum in Golden Gate Park to see the Yves Saint Laurent and the Andy Warhol exhibits. So so good- very inspiring and interesting. It was a beautiful day and afterwards I sat outside and people watched for a while; the whole museum was incredibly crowded. And funnily enough, Sheila, on the other side of the US, was having a day in NY going to art shows and we both saw the film by Warhol (in different exhibits) of the man sleeping...maybe at the same time...eeek spooky mother/daughter connection... It was a perfect Wednesday.

California Poppies

Hello! I hope your Wednesday is going well. Everywhere along the roads here are growing the most beautiful poppies. Such a treat. Noticing them after my trip to the gym made my day a bit brighter...I was sharing the weight room with one of those people who make so much noise while lifting weights that you don't know if you should laugh or panic... Then he started flipping around the weight bar like some sort of sword which was my cue to leave. Ahem....interesting...

Wine Tasting and Bocce Ball...

Happy St. Patricks Day to you all!! Konrad and I were reminiscing about how when we were young, Sheila would make us green tea and green pancakes for breakfast. And if my memory serves me correctly, I think if we didn't wear green to school, we would get pinched?? Children can be so cruel...

Pool Side Color

Happy Monday! We had a great weekend and hope you did too. The apartment complex that we are staying in has a pool and hot tub. We've been here about 3 weeks and only went in for the first time on Friday. Why oh why we waited so long is beyond me. It was the perfect end to the day. I'm sure we'll be splashing around in there a lot more in the time we have left here.
The patterned bag from Paperchase which is available at most Borders Bookstores (this one is about 3 years old). All of their products have the best print and pattern. You'll wander into Borders to buy a book and end up leaving with a polka dotted pencil case that you really didn't need...it just happens...bizaare...

Happy Friday!!

Have a great weekend! We're planning on going wine tasting tomorrow which is always fun. I'm also planning on using my Friends and Family Discount card at Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Piperlime (Thanks Susie!!). Plus I heard a rumor (ok fine, it wasn't a rumor... it came straight out of the weatherman's mouth) that it will start to get warmer this weekend. Hurray!
(and if you're wondering, Yes, that orange wall is the downtown Palo Alto Anthropologie... dangerously close to our temporary housing...)

Orange You Plaid

I can't believe it's Thursday already (do i say that every Thursday??) Tomorrow is my last day of freelancing. I'm very happy to be back in the states, and extremely happy to be in the Bay Area...but. Yes, but, we found out that we will probably be moving to Dallas. We think. I'm keeping an open mind and if we are moving there, I can start getting excited for a new adventure/new place/ etc. It's just a bit frustrating not knowing at the moment. I've had a headache all week and been so cranky... if I'm annoying myself with this attitude, I feel even worse for Erik, who has to deal with me! Ah well, I should take some advice from my grandmother, Giggi, who said, 'Isn't is so exciting to not know where you're going.'. Yes, yes, I suppose it is.

But Do We Like Them....

Some shoes I saw through a window last week and Erik so nicely bought for me the next day since I was at work. So....in my head and memory they looked a lot different.... I'm still not sure what I think of them...Yes or No? hmmmmm

Hee!

I've never been good at surprises, at all. So I was as shocked as you by the fact that I was able to sit in my apartment staring at birthday packages from my parents without opening them until this morning. Hurray! I was sent this plant...which are actually salad servers and a dressing pot.

Hee! love it.From my favorite shop in Guilford, CT- Mix Design Store.

Lucky Toes!

Lucky Me! Lucky Toes is a new website by Citysearch all about shoes. I was asked to be a 'dictator' on the site, so you can see me blab about wonderful shoes and submit some of your own as well. Go on! Take a peek here...and may you have sweet dreams of lovely shoes...sigh...

Some Sun For You

The weather has been pretty lousy here...tons of umbrellas, raincoats and warm boots, not the time for fun shoes. Although this is good; I'm still living out of a suitcase with only a couple of pairs of shoes (ok, maybe 6... not nearly enough. and running shoes don't count in case Erik is reading this...) until our air shipment arrives. Here are some warm images. Perhaps someone will get new shoes for her birthday...squeal!

Tuesday

No rain today....Lovely (but believe me, i am not complaining...the nice meteorologist on CNN just told me that CT had 14 inches. yikes). While I was home for Christmas, I bought the book The Gentle Art of Domesticity by Jane Brocket. Sheila saw it and fell really hard for it...so I gave it to her (and I think she deserves it with all the snow...it's the perfect read for staying inside) I then bought it for myself again and it arrived this past weekend. It is SUCH a wonderful book. I'll try to post some photos from it this evening.
And....Happy Square Root Day!
