THE Trip!

Ok, so a bit of a warning... tons of photos coming up... sorry. But it was such a fabulantagious trip! Unfortunately, my internets are slow this morning.... so I'll try to get the photos on tonight. Thank you soooo much for all of the birthday wishes, it truly was a magical day.... full of lots of food, grottos, my favorite shoes, a trip to the Lebanon border, wildlife (I know right? ick) well, you'll see the photos soon. But for now I'll leave you with this photo of my birthday present, it's the coral.... like when you were a child and your sibling also got a present from your grandparents when it was actually YOUR birthday.... Erik got a massive shell for mine. hee

I Want to Live in His World and Never Leave...

These images from John Galliano's Autumn/Winter 2008-9 have left me speechless. The texture and color and everything and everything... eesh... ooh ahh.

A Surprise Trip!

So it turns out we are going waaay up north tomorrow for a fun trip! I wheedled it out of Erik... I don't like surprises, and anyway... I had to know what to pack, right? We'll stop in Akko for lunch, and pick up what is supposedly the best hummus in Israel... we'll see about that. Then we're driving further north... to a cave I think? And then a nature reserve.... or park maybe... Oh I'm not sure of the details.... I'll let you know when I do.
But you can bet your bottom dollar these shoes are a'comin with me.

We Love Hats!

Yesterday I spent the morning organizing the hats in the archive. Such fun! My favorites were the 1940s and 1950s. Also the funny 1960s...especially the swim caps... I have a few vintage hats in Connecticut and have asked Sheila to put them somewhere safe for me. I think at the moment they are in the front hall closet for impromptu photo shoots before a guest leaves (Mellman, I believe I have evidence of you wearing the powder blue wedding cake hat...). These are all from the Vintage Hat Box website. Although the photos take a bit of time to come up, it's worth it to see the fun headpieces. Vintage hats can do so much for a look, but take a lot of guts to pull off. I'm reminded of an episode of Sex and The City when Carrie and Burger are fighting because she was making fun of the fact that the main charactor in his novel was wearing a scrunchi. She's wearing an adorable mini pillbox-like hat, and while they are fighting, the only retort Burger can come up with is, "Nice Hat". Try not to get in a fight while wearing one... but... Let's Bring Back the Hat!

O.P.I.!

Sometimes there's nothing better than a new nail color. My favorite part of getting a manicure is choosing my color... Like when you were a child and got to pick a toy out of the treasure chest after successfully not screaming or kicking the dentist during a cleaning. Oh so many colors! and so many fun names! Too many choices! Well, I just found out that on the OPI Website, you can go to the 'try it on studio', pick your skin color, and see what it would look like. Hello, fun time-waster!! Although, the hand shown is way too manicured and long-nailed for it to even remotely resemble mine, it's still fun. I gave myself a real manicure last night with the yellow color shown top left. It's called 'Need Sunglasses'. However, Sheila and Erik agree it should be called something more along the lines of 'Nail Fungus".... whatever... I think it looks wicked.

Trenches

I love this trench coat from Bottega Veneta's Spring/Summer 2008 line. Perfect gloves for a perfect sleeve. Very chic.
I'm tired today...but I got enough sleep. I think I just miss my family and friends. Maybe I'm tired of watching the same thing over and over on the news. I really miss the east coast...even though I probably wouldn't be able to wear a short sleeved trench coat in the frosty freezey cold...
ok, now that's enough of a downer...let's think of more cheerful things like, raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, and really nice coats.

Rosy Sandals

I just saw these amazing sandals on Oh Happy Day, available at Piperlime. They may quite possibly be the best sandals I have seen... in a long time. I don't say 'ever' because I HAVE in fact seen better... but it's a sad story... you won't be interested...ok, alright fine, I'll tell you. So in 1999 or 2000, I was living in London and had taken a trip to New York to visit my friend Dana. She brought me to this amazing store on 5th ave and 16th street... Yes, you guessed it... my first trip to an Anthropologie. I walked around, baffled by not only the items in the store, but also the prices... I had just graduated college and was new to this world of inflated prices for the sake of beauty and packaging... My eyes then fell on the most perfect pair of sandals I had ever seen... They had dark wooden soles with a hand painted flower on them and on the strap in between the toes was a perfect leather rose. I think that the straps may have even been leather leaves... see I was so amazed I've now forgotton...Anyway... there was no price, so I went up to the counter and asked... ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE DOLLARS.... holy crap... for flip flops?!?! But hmmm well they were so nice... but so much money!!!.... but so one-of a kind!...but I should be saving my money!....but my feet would look so great!...alas, I did not buy them. And that my children was the one and only biggest shopping regret I have ever made in my life. So the lesson I have learned is that if you see the perfect sandal, buy them... and with that, and the impending birthday coming this week, I just may order these... we'll see...

Isaac + Target = Yes!

I'm adoring these dresses by Issac Mizrahi for Target. I would love to try one on to see if it fits well, because they look as though they are shaped nicely but only real life can tell. The black one would be great for a 'just for the hell of it' basic black dress...and at this price, it would be a crime not to get more than one color... These would be the perfect uniform for a garden tea party with peep toe heels, little white gloves, cucumber sandwiches and tray upon tray of pastel colored petit fours....yes please!

Feather in My Cap

I had been looking everywhere for something for my wedding to wear in my hair. I knew I wanted some sort of feather piece, but most things I found were either too big, too flowery, too expensive... until I found Shelly Sheek. There are tons of different feather-y hair things... and i even decided to opt for a veil like thing.... which I wasn't going to before, but when I saw the fun vintage-y ones... I thought, Oh what the hell...other than a funeral when else will I wear one. So I suppose I won't know exactly how it is until I see it in July... I'll let you know...
