Anni Rapinoja

My friend Sarah and her mother recently saw Anni Rapinoja's show, 'Wardrobe of Nature II' at PS1. They brought me back the catalog as it reminded them of my senior art show in college (wow...which was...10 years ago...how did that happen??). I wish I could have seen these pieces in person, they seem incredible.

The Finnish artist created shoes, baby booties, handbags, jackets, all from materials of nature; pussy willow, cowberry leaves, reeds.

She actually created the structure as well out of tissue paper hardened with rye porridge (ie, she didn't just stick leaves on a pair of shoes). Amazing.

Thank you Sarah and Gail for thinking of me and giving me the catalog!

School Prints

I love these etsuko fuyura fabrics from Reprodepot. There is something about them that makes me think of the first day of school, a feeling that I miss. While in New York last week, I could feel the start of the crispness in the air that happens in September. I miss that, especially here. There is something about fall that conjours thoughts of beginnings...whether it was when I was little and excited to buy a new Trapper Keeper, in college and excited about new classes, or just the thought that I could put away my shorts and start wearing cordouroy and tights.... Oh fall....

Banana Clutch

I love this bright blue clutch from Banana Republic.

Also, this oversized one...yes please...

And these vintage inspired black ones...

8-8-08

Here are some more photos and some details of the actual day. The bridesmaids wore two different colored dresses from J. Crew. The groomsmen wore khakis, blazers and matching ties. I made them all bouttoniers out of fake limes, blackberries and bees. The were then renamed "fruitoniers". The flowers were done by my mother's cousin from England. Most of the flowers were picked from our friends backyard; we saved a ton on the flowers and then were sooo beautiful. My dress was a tea length ivory dress from David's Bridal. I bought the blue petticoat from a square dancing website and adjusted it to a better length. The shoes are Calvin Klein and currently my favorites. The ceremony and reception were both at Highfield Hall in Falmouth, Ma. The officiant (Erik's brother) did an incredible. We had 2 readings, one from the Velveteen Rabbit and one from Captain Corelli's Mandolin. I loved them both. During dinner we had some really moving speeches from my maid of honor, Katherine, Erik's brother Randy, my father and Erik's father. After this we had a toast at 8pm on our 8/8/08 day. Hee. We then moved into the ballroom for an incredible night of dancing. The band was none other than the Steve Atwood band, who's lead guitarist is none other than my dad. Great classic rock that no one wanted to stop dancing to. Instead of a cake we had cupcakes with a topper of 2 people fighting a dragon. It was a great time and I can't believe it's over! You can see more photos at this website that our friend Brent made for us. There are some photos of our pizza/trivia rehearsal night, and the brunch the following day. Enjoy!

And Then It Was All Over...

I arrived in Israel very early this morning. It feels like this whole summer was a dream and never really happened. If I didn't have photos, for all I know, it may not have. What a fun filled packed summer. I'm so lucky to have had so much time at home with amazing friends and family and amazing places. I'm trying not to feel sad about leaving since I'm lucky to have even had the experiences, but it's tough. I miss everyone so much. And even Erik now, he took a later flight and won't be here for a few more hours, so I'm all alone with a bowl of popcorn (there was no food in the house and the stores weren't open at 7am, boo) and E! Entertainment. hmmm.
After unpacking, I will be back to my normal posts and fun pretty things to look at on the blog. I'm Back!
