A Happy Friday to You

After an incredibly short week, I've found myself at the weekend again. How nice! Our plan for the weekend is to pack and enjoy as much of this area as we can. We are still unsure about the house...things are not going as well as we had anticipated. All we can do now is cross our fingers and toes. Which I'm finding hard to do in heels. Ah well, what can you do...

Memorial Day Loveliness

Some highlights from our weekend up north. It has been an incredibly short week for me, as I don't work on Wednesdays...I'll take a 3 day week anytime, thank you. I have some marvelous new finds that I discovered yesterday and will show them soon. Right now, however, I've got to dash to make my train...

A Happy Friday to You

Congratulations for making it to the end of the week. I'm oh so excited for this weekend which will include, great friends, badminton, pool fun, tequila jello shots, wine tasting, and more. It should be grand. This is the last time I speak of the house, I promise. But it looks as though it may be ours! Large hurrays all around! I'll be very excited to have a place of our own. It has been lovely here in the temporary housing and I'm incredibly grateful, but it will feel nice to be in our own space.
Have a marvelous Memorial Day weekend! See you on Tuesday.

Shoes, Inside and Out

Sorry about the drop out yesterday, I had the day off and ended up getting wrapped up in a day of errands. They were the type of jobs that were in themselves not much at all, but incredibly satisfying to cross off of my to-do list. I'm excited for this week to end, not only because the weekend holds a lot of fun up in Sonoma, but also because we'll find out if the sellers of the house will accept our repair requests.... I shouldn't let this all take over my thoughts but I'm afraid it has... and whether we get the house or not, I'll be glad to know and get my thoughts back.

Traveling Here and There

Traveling home on the train last night, I was reminded again how much I love this area. When I first moved to the bay area 4 years ago, I left behind a city that had stolen my heart and was unwilling to let any other city in. Perhaps removing myself from the country altogether, allowed me to gain an insight and ability to see what an incredible place this is without thoughts of others.
We are still waiting to hear more about the house. Hopefully this week we will know more...so I won't be premature looking at paint chips and plants...ahem.
Some lovelies about from Anthropologie.

Welcome Weekend

After 4 grueling hours of waiting at the car mechanic yesterday, I left no wiser than when I had arrived. Don't you hate that? Now I am in constant worry that as I'm driving, my car will let me down with a sputtering stall. Ah well, it will add an element of excitement to my life. We are still moving along with the house situation; we are crossing our fingers and toes that we will know everything for sure next week. It is situations like this that I prefer to file in the back of my mind to think about later when I have more time to over think issues that I have no control over. These types of stresses are the worst, and usually the kind that creep out of my secret upper story cabinet to pester me in my sleep.

Orange in the Sky

Last night my dreams were overtaken by thoughts of houses; looking at them, trying to buy them, and figuring out what was wrong with them. After that, Sylar from the television program, 'Heroes' was after me and a group of people. I'll be very content when this is all over and complete. I'm also crossing my fingers that my car won't break down again today. Perhaps those comfortable walking shoes should be taken advantage of today. Yes, I believe that is the answer to my problems. Or potential ones...

Ups and Downs

What an interesting few days we've had... Thursday was an auspicious day for me. I went to look at 5 houses and fell in love with one. Fell so hard that I had Erik leave work to come look at it. Before we knew it, we were signing an offer. While flying to Boston for a wedding, we found out that our offer was accepted. Very thrilling indeed. Today I spent 3 hours with the inspector, learning all about termites, asbestos popcorn ceilings, and houses that move... Later in the day, I attempted to drive to the Palo Alto Public Library to return my DVDs only to then have the shock of breaking down on a busy road. A bit of a downer after the excitement of the morning. While I'm nervous about the car, I'm also a wee bit distressed about the fact that I will not be returning Foyles War back to the library until after the due date. Perhaps this is my way of avoiding the real stresses. Well, I suppose we do what we can...

A Happy Friday to You

Today is the closing of a very interesting week indeed. This afternoon, a plane will be bringing us back to the east coast for a wedding in Boston, which we are quite excited for. I am certain it will provide an absolute entertaining diversion from where our minds have been lately. Bring on the fun!

The Odd Day

Two of my favorite numbers are 5 and 7, so let's hope today holds something good for me. I was up early this morning and my legs were working way before my eyelids. We drove through the mists and teletubby green hills of 280 to Santa Clara where I picked up my new car. It's an incredibly great feeling to know that I can go anywhere I like without being limited by my own 2 feet. This afternoon will be spent looking at houses, which should be interesting. I'm a firm believer in the thought that one should not look at real estate on a rainy day as it can make any depressing situation more so. Today the sun is sparkling off of the flowering trees- I've got the weather and the number of todays date in my advantage...

Stuck in the Middle of a Wednesday

A bit of a late start with the posting today... We walked around Stanford this morning. One of our visiting friends works for an architecture company that is working on the environmental science buildings that are currently being constructed. It was so interesting to hear the background from someone involved in the designing and building. I love strolling around academic environments, desperately hoping that something will rub off on me... To see so many students brings one back to ones own days as an undergrad. How much we've changed, and not changed at all. What we would do differently, etc etc... We need to get back to school. soon.

A Colorful Morning

Again, I'm joined this morning by rain and clouds. However I'm not complaining; I'm also joined by our friends from Portland. They've just finished a global 2 month trip, and we've been enjoying hearing their impressive tales. Off they went this morning to the DeYoung armed with fleeces and umbrellas. I will spend the afternoon hopefully exploring the local public library, where I'm anticipating finding a computer and printer... one must always have strong ambitions! I think the house hunting is getting into my mind, I dreamt last night of searching through endless homes, only to then find myself in the audience of Saturday Night Live where I was the guest of one of the performers. I left during the commercial break to look for something (and what was that thing?) and was then all of a sudden on a jet ski shaped like a snail in a public park. Yup, interesting indeed...

Rainy Weekend

Our weekend was one of gloomy grays and glistening puddles. We spent our hours searching and seeking open houses and cars for sale. By the time Sunday reached us, we had been met with a multitude of defeats. However, we won't let these setbacks bring us down. There are many more houses to look at; we simply haven't found ours yet. Our heads are up, and facing the sun that is showing itself today. Some splendid news for me to share is that I think we have found my car. I'm making my final decision today...a nice roomy, trusty Honda with an incredibly large trunk for a plethora of shoe boxes...

Horsing Around

I was up early this morning, as the sun was sleepily peeking through the trees. Trying to unsuccessfully stay stolid, my thoughts have been a whirlwind of commotion. Perhaps it is the restless effects of the caffeine, or maybe the unsteady wandering of my mind. I have been given what I had been longing for, however, now feel more trepidation as we begin to settle the details. I'm sure that I'm being melodramatic, and will place the blame on the coffee...
